Holy Thursday - Maundy Thursday

On Holy Thursday, also called Maundy Thursday, Jesus ate the Last Supper with his disciples. On this day he initiated Holy Communion by breaking the bread and saying these words: "... do this in memory of me."

We have been baking flat bread for supper and we drank grape juice to celebrate Last Supper

Preparing for Easter: Make Salt Dough Easter Eggs

This was fun to do and quite easy for the children as well.

Instructions for Salt Dough Easter Eggs

You will need:
  • 1 cup of salt
  • 2-3 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of water
  • acrylic paints
Cut an egg shape out of cardboard. Roll out the dough and cut out salt-dough eggs around the egg shape. Poke a hole. We used a chopstick for this. Let dry in the oven for about 2 hours at 80C (176 F). Let cool down and paint with acrylic colours.
You can get acrylic paints here.

Preparing for Easter: Make Gigantic Easter Egg

This is how we did it:
  • Blow up balloon until it has egg shape. Cover with paper stripes and paste – do 3 layers. See below, how to make your own paste. Let dry.
  • Burst the balloon with a needle and remove it carefully.
  • Colour as you wish – if you do different layers of colours, make sure the paint underneath is dry.
  • Bind two toothpicks together and tie a string on it. Let into hole for hanging egg up – see images below.

Make your own paste: mix 2 heaped tsp with a beaker of water and bring shortly to the boil. Cook for another 2 min. while stiring constantly. Let cool down and use!
