Fast with Pope Francis Today!

This is a reminder I received from CAFOD:

Pope Francis calls us to fast today

Today is Family Fast Day, a day when we go without and donate the money saved to help our sisters and brothers living in poverty.

This year, Catholics around the world will be joining us in our fast, as Pope Francis has called for a day of prayer and fasting.

The Chair of St Peter, Apostle

Today's feast is The Chair of St Peter the Apostle. We think especially of our Pope, Francis I., head of the Church. In the Walk With Me prayer booklet for lent (A Lenten Journey of Prayer for 2018), I found this prayer for today:
We pray for Pope Francis who stands in the shoes of shoes of St Peter the fisherman and sits in hies chair. We ask God to strenghten and console him in his love and service of God and his people.
Our Father ..., Ten Hail Marys,  Glory be ...

Lent Calendar and Booklet for Children

Our son brought this great Walk With Me Lent Calendar 2018 home as lent gift from his Catholic school. I've sticked it on a cupboard door for the whole family to see. Now I enjoy doing the daily tasks and fasting ideas myself.
The Calendar for Lent is published by Walk With Me by Alive Publishing.
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, because by your holy Cross you have redeemed the world.

He also received this useful Day bay Day booklet to accompany him through the 40 fasting days. Published by Arch Publishing Ltd.

Saint Josephine Bakhita

Saint Josephine Bakhita is the saint of the day of the 8th of February. She was born in Sudan and was kidnapped into slavery as a child. After being sold several times she came to a family in Italy, where she became acquainted to the Catholic church. In 1890 she became baptised and entered the Institute of St. Magdalene of Canossa in 1893. She was beatified in 1992 and canonized in 2000.

To obtain favor from St. Josephine Bakhita please say this prayer, an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be and kindly remember to pray for our suffering Christian brothers and sisters in Sudan, her native land, who at this very moment are being persecuted, sold into slavery, and converted against their will to the Muslim religion
Loving God, rewarder of the humble, you blessed St. Josephine Bakhita with charity and patience. May her prayers help us, and her example inspire us to carry our cross and to love you always. Pour upon us the spirit of wisdom and love with which you filled St. Josephine Bakhita.
By serving you as she did, may we please you by our faith and our actions. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

The Presentation of the Lord

The Presentation of the Lord, also called Candlemas, marks the end of the Christmas tide! Jesus was brought to the temple - a Jewish tradition Mary and Joseph performed since Jesus was the first born.

The Presentation of the Lord

Now in Jerusalem there was a man named Simeon. He was an upright and devout man; he looked forward to the restoration of Israel and the Holy Spirit rested on him.

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had set eyes on the Christ of the Lord.

Prompted by the Spirit he came to the Temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God; and he said:
Now, Master, you are letting your servant go in peace as you promised; for my eyes have seen the salvation which you have made ready in the sight of the nations; a light of revelation for the gentiles and glory for your people Israel.

As the child's father and mother were wondering at the things that were being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,
'Look, he is destined for the fall and for the rise of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is opposed - and a sword will pierce your soul too - so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.'
Luke 2:25-35
