Getting ready for Easter - Part Two

We have been dying eggs for Easter Sunday. These eggs are going to be for eating! To get the golden-red-brown colour, we cooked them in onion skin. The eggs will be blessed by a priest during "Swieconka" - a Polish tradition that also occurs in English Churches.

Instructions for Colouring Easter Eggs with Onion Skin

Place leaves or flowers on raw egg and cover tightly with a piece of old, thin tights. Tie a knot on each end. Place the eggs in a wide pan. Add onion skin of about 5-6 onions. Cover the eggs with water. Bring to the boil and cook on low heat for 5 more minutes. Turn cooker off and leave in the pan for about six hours. Remove the tights and plants and dab the eggs dry with tissue paper.
